BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2016: Andy Murray breaks record and wins title for THIRD time

The Scottish tennis champion was up against triathlete Alistair Brownlee, who came second, and show jumper Nick Skelton, who came third, for the coveted title.

Andy took home the award after a spectacular year of sporting achievements, including an Olympic gold, a second Wimbledon title and becoming the first British tennis player to reach number one in the world.

Talking about his win from a Miami training camp, he joked: “I’ve got a bone to pick with my wife, who told me an hour ago she had voted for Nick Skelton!

“It’s not smart of her with Christmas coming up.”
