Olivia is taking the lead for girls, and Oliver wins top marks for the boys. 

The most popular names across UK cities have also been collated.

And now, we’ve turned our attention to middle names.

Have you ever wondered why everyone seems to have the same middle name? 

The most popular choices have been revealed, and you might be surprised.

According to Ancestry.co.uk, Louise is the most popular middle name for girls followed by Rose and Grace.

Jane, Elizabeth and Anne are next, then May, Marie and Mary. 

People tend to opt for more traditional middle names [Getty ]

“It seems that middle names are a relatively new phenomenon, having only become the norm over the last hundred years—driven by the desire to commemorate well-loved ancestors,” said Miriam Silverman, UK content manager at Ancestry.co.uk.

“Middle names are less likely to follow popular culture and more likely reflect age-old traditions or names that were popular in our parents’ or grandparents’ generation—hence the very traditional makeup of today’s top 10 middle names.”

This is apparently why James, John and William are the most popular boys’ middle names.

The top baby names for spring have also been revealed, and top of the list is Willow, followed by Daisy and Violet.
