Coronation Street star Connor McIntyre responded to backlash over his character Pat Phelan’s latest storyline [Wenn]
After months of being held captive by Pat Phelan, played by Connor McIntyre, Andy Carver was manipulated into killing villain Vinny.
Pat then shot Andy and killed him, and some very dark scenes for the soap.
Some viewers found the scenes too much for pre-watershed, complaining about the episode online.

Speaking exclusively to OK! Online at the Inside Soap Awards 2017, Connor, who plays Phelan, has responded to claims about the controversial episode.
Confessing he understood where the viewers’ were coming from, Connor defended the soap over the shock plot.
He told us: “I respect anyone complaining, but if you’re pushing the edge of anything you are gonna get responses.
“Corrie has a long tradition for filming this kind of stuff set against real humour.”

Connor added: “My sense is they were taken by surprise, the intensity of the drama.
“Kate and the team went to great lengths to ensure we were not crossing the well established boundaries.

“Once we saw the gun we knew it wasn’t gonna end well, we wanted to be careful that it didn’t come out of the blue.”
Connor added: “I think it was a reminder that it’s best, soap can deliver.”

The star went on to discuss who Pat will be eyeing up as his next victim, confessing Anna Windass was in the firing line.
Pat teased that the characters snooping around were all potentially in danger, with Pat being unpredictable.
