As the camera returned to the pair from the weather forecast, Susanna asked the star: “Are you eating toast? Are you able to speak?”

The show then aired an advert for a competition, before the camera again showed Piers eating toast – and looking at his phone.

“Again?” Charlotte Hawkins exclaimed as Piers realised he’d been caught.

“What’s going on?” he asked as Susanna fired back: “Well what’s going on is you’re eating you’re breakfast while we’re on air hosting a television programme.”

Fed up, Susanna took away his toast and retorted: “Nobody’s forcing you to eat breakfast Piers Morgan.”

She added: “Unexpected links? We’re presenting television to the nation.

“There’s nothing unexpected about being on television at this time in the morning.”
