The couple ended their 16-year relationship earlier this year.
And now the Sherlock actress has revealed that their break-up was “entirely amicable”.
Speaking to the Telegraph, Abbington said: “Martin and I remain best friends and love each other, and it was entirely amicable.
“There was no hostility, really, we just said that we couldn’t live together anymore, so we put everything in place, he moved out to a flat in north London, I stayed at home and we’ve started a new chapter.”

She added: “It is sad and it is upsetting, because you think you’re going to be with someone forever, but you either do that or you break up, and we both came to the decision that splitting was best for us.
“We’ve been really lucky to make it such a clean break, especially for the kids.”
The former couple – who starred as husband and wife in Sherlock – are thought to have called time on their relationship back in March.
Love Actually star Martin confirmed the news in a recent interview.

Amanda and Martin had been together since 2000, after they met on the set of the Channel 4 film, Men Only.
They have two children together.
Speaking to the Financial Times on Thursday, Martin said: “I’m not with Amanda any more.
“It’s very, very amicable – I’ll always love Amanda.”

While he didn’t explain why the couple split, Martin hinted that his starring role in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy may have been a factor.
After being pushed to answer, he admitted: “To a certain extent, yes.
“Not as much as it might have done, and not as much as maybe I would have hoped it had.”
The couple were notoriously private, and rarely spoke out about their relationship, despite dropping hints a year ago that they had secretly tied the knot.

He cryptically responded to a reporter’s question about their relationship, and said: “We might have married already.
“I’m just saying – mind your own business. My job is public, why should my private life be public as well?”
