Great British Bake Off brings back shocking twist during technical challenge: Noel Fielding and Prue Leith revealed a twist during the technical challenge [Channel 4]
Having warmed up the tent with their school puddings, hosts Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig then told the remaining bakers that they would be doing something different during the technical bake round.
Announcing that the bakers would be starting at different times unlike the usual format when everyone starts together, Sandi revealed: “Today we’re going to be staggering your start times.
“We’re going to be calling you in one by one and tell you what the challenge is at your start time. So everyone leave except Julia.”
As Julia looked a little worried when everyone else started to walk out of the white tent, Sandi explained what she had to do.

“You have to make six molten chocolate puddings filled with peanut butter in one hour.”
As the scenes played out on screen, viewers were left confused by the minor change and took to Twitter to share their thoughts.
“Hang on…what’s happening?! #GBBO,” asked one, while another excitedly declared: “Oooo secret challenge! #gbbo?”
Believing that they knew the reason for the staggered starts, one viewer posted: “I GET IT NOW. It’s so they can’t copy each other. #gbbo.”

Another commented on the social networking site: “They should always stagger the Technical – stops them copying each other !! #PuddingWeek #GBBO
Others were confused about how it would work during the second round of the episode.
“Wait. How is a staggered start going to work with technical? #GBBO,” asked a fan.”
Whilst the bakers got to work on the puddings, judge Paul Hollywood explained why there was a different start time for everyone when he said: “These are designed to be hot straight from the oven so we’re staggering the starts and we’ll judge them live.”
Unlike previous weeks where the bakers put their creations on the table before the judges walked in, Paul and Prue Leith sat at the table with their backs to the bakers.

In order to keep the identity of the baker hidden, Sandi and Noel were tasked with delivering the puddings to the judges.
