Providing background information, journalist Trevor McDonald explained how the police began to investigate the murder of Alice Ruggles who had been brutally killed in her flat.

In a TV first, viewers were given the chance to watch the investigation unfold firsthand when the murder squad wore body cameras to document the process of their investigation.

As the documentary went on, the police decided to question Alice’s ex boyfriend Lance Corporal Trimaan ‘Harry’ Dhillon after she had called the police for advice over his sinister behaviour eleven days before her death.

Believing that they had grounds to arrest him, viewers watched as Harry was called in for questioning at the police station in Gateshead.

Behaving like he didn’t have anything to do with Alice’s murder and with no concrete evidence against him, the police were working around the clock to find something that would link him to the murder.

With seven minutes to spare before she would have to release him, Senior Detective Lisa Theaker got the evidence she needed to prove that Harry was guilty of committing the shocking crime.

As he provided “no comment” during the interview, the police decided to officially charge him with the murder of Alice.

However, it was his chilling reaction that sent shockwaves across Twitter.
