The Love Island couple recently posted a picture of them holding some Christmas-themed condoms.

Wearing Santa hats and sharing a cheeky kiss, the pair held up some seasonal condoms for the camera.

“Christmas has come early,” Olivia wrote to her 984k Instagram followers.

“Condoms that taste like Christmas pudding from @superdrugloves!

“Vote for your favourite and find out more on the online doctor page on the Superdrug website #wrapitup #promotesafesex #ad#letstalkaboutsexbaby”

But fans slammed the picture saying it was “cringe” and desperate.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Olivia answered back to her critics.

“I don’t know why people don’t want to talk about condoms or safe sex, but they’re quite happy to watch us have sex on TV,” she said.

“Why shouldn’t we try and do something funny?

“At least it will get people used to it, and start talking about it.”

Alex added: “The people who were saying the hurtful things and taking the p**s out of us, they’re the ones not comfortable with themselves.

“They’re being really childish about it.”

Olivia said: “We’re not doing this for ourselves, not everything is constantly about us, we’re trying to do something nice.”

The 23 year old added that her parents were proud of her involvement in the safe sex campaign.

“My dad tweeted me saying that he was supporting me because we’re doing something to help young people feel okay with asking someone to put a condom on,” she said.

Alex added: “We’ve had sex on TV, they really didn’t care about a condom selfie.”

Olivia added that she was happy to be taking the stigma out of using protection.

She said: “People are planning to have more sex during the festive period, so everyone should chill and stop being awkward about it.”
